Construction jobs starts with a trainee position
and ends with a management position. There is a wide range of
opportunity for the graduates who are looking forward for a career
in construction industry. However, choosing a right career in
this industry can be a difficult task as it depends on your experience,
qualification and career goals.
In this industry you can mould your career as a general builder,
site foreman, site manager, site engineer, quantity surveyor,
building surveyor to name some.
With
proper training you can achieve the qualifications required
to prove your skills to employers and clients. Types
of qualification and training vary with different trades,
but qualifications that are generally asked for includes Construction
Awards and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s)
/ Scottish Vocational Qualifications.
For specialised occupations you require to have a Foundation
Intermediate and Advanced Construction Awards. NVQs provide
you with practical skills and knowledge related to your work.
The syllabus is designed by the people who work in the building
and construction industry. Scottish Vocational Qualifications
(SVQs) is similar to NVQs and are the preferred system in
Scotland. Both of them help you to get into this industry
and enhance your career by developing new skills and knowledge. Civil
engineers, however, deal with projects related to local authorities
like rail companies, harbour
boards,
oil companies… They are the one responsible to build
new rail links, towns or airports. On the other hand, engineers
are involved in the entire process of the construction

right from reaching to an agreement with the management
on a project to the supervision of the operation; they
are responsible
