The best medium to increase your job opportunity
Many
people do little when it comes to searching for a job apart
from scanning through the newspaper vacancies. The reason could
be: they do not know how to go about it, or they are not sure
as to what they want. In such cases, it is better to get registered
with a recruitment agency or consultancy as they know what
needs to be done with your bio-data.
Once registered,
most of the recruitment and employment agency will
first of all identify your academic achievements, type of
work you’re looking for, the region that you want to work
in. There are few agencies that carry out mock interviews.
Of late, you’ll find that some recruitment
agencies specialising in a specific industry sectors, for instance,
finance or sales. While there are other online agencies which
offer the most painless assistance in job hunting. However, the
disadvantage lies in the fact that your CV will be presented
along with many others to the employer. But this hitch can be
reduced or al together eliminated by listing your bio-data with
an offline agency who specialises in your career area.
Before
choosing an agency there are few things you need to find out
in advance: Who are agency’s major clients? What kind
of jobs the agency handles? Is the agency a member of Recruitment
and Employment Confederation (REC)? Will it contact you before
sending your details to an employer? Also there are some agencies
that won’t mind if you are registering with several others
agencies, but if they feel it’s going to weaken their
interest in you, they object to it.
Apart
from finding out the nitty-gritty of a particular agency, your
purpose of the first meeting should be to establish contact
with the agency and make then understand as to what work interests
you and what you can offer. The idea behind meeting the consultant
is to great a lasting impression in his mind about you so that
if any suitable job turns up, you will be remembered. This
can be done by impressing consultants with your employability
in the same way as if you were meeting your prospective employer
for an interview.
If
at all you’re short listed for an interview, make sure
to ask the agency for any kind of information and tips pertaining
to job and the company. Majority of the agencies try and avoid
giving information about recruiters as they feel that the hunters
may approach them directly. But once you agree to go for the
interview there shouldn’t be any hassle whatsoever in
retrieving information of the recruiter which can be researched
before going for an interview. Even after you have finished
with your interview, the job is not over. You will have to
keep on perusing and chasing your consultant to find out the
result.
If
your agency is not fixing any interviews try and call them
up, even if there is no response from their side you will probably
have to register with some other agency. The problem with most
of the agencies is that applications disappear in their files
without any trace. Many agencies also mail you irrelevant job
list or fix inappropriate interviews in order to make number.
But if the agency is professional then you are sure to get
a job. |
