After taking a degree or diploma in nursing you will have to register as a nurse before you start practicing nursing. To apply for a diploma course you will require a GCSE pass certificate or equivalent to grade C or above which should include English, math and science as major subjects.

Vocational qualifications are also acceptable. The NHS lets you to work while you train. For a degree you will need at least two A-levels or equivalent in addition to the GCSE passes outlined above. Different institutions will ask for different qualifications.

Nursing - Children – If you have liking for children then this area is for you. Unlike adults children become ill quickly and also recover faster. You will have to be good at intuition and understand a child’s problem. Often children do not communicate the way we adults can.

Nursing - Learning Disabilities – Many people need help in adjusting their life styles. Nursing people with learning disabilities involves helping people to acquire new skills. You may have to help them doing simple tasks like washing clothes and utensils or dressing or teaching them how to use money.

Midwifery – An expectant mother needs to be taken care of in a special way. As a midwife you will help the expectant mother to prepare her body for the birth. The midwife helps in delivering the baby and advices the mother in taking care of baby and herself.

How much to expect?
Depending on your location, experience and the amount of time you put in, your pay package will vary. London salaries are higher than elsewhere reflecting the high cost of living in the capital. Your salary can range from £9,000 to £30,000 a year.
